Structure & Broadcast
The Great Big Gladiator Games will take place across two days (Saturday & Sunday) featuring 8 rounds of Bo3 Swiss on Day 1, and a cut to Top 8 for Day 2. Swiss rounds will use the MTG Arena in-game timer as well as the Melee.GG tournament timer.
The event will be feature a full two-day broadcast on LoadingReadyRun's Twitch channel! To maintain tournament integrity it will be broadcast with a one round delay.
Technical Requirements
As you all know by now The Great Big Gladiator Games will be streamed across two days, from Round 1 all the way to the finals. In order for this to happen, we require that every participant is capable of not only playing MTG Arena, but also streaming a 1080p capture of their gameplay. Facecam and player audio will not be required.
For clarification, you will not be required to stream your gameplay for the entirety of the tournament and we ask that you do not stream through personal channels. However, if one of your Day 1 matches is selected as a featured round or if you qualify for Top 8, you will be required to stream a 1080p capture of your gameplay via OBS Ninja. Details for how to meet these requirements will be provided via the event discord server.
We understand that this may result in some players being uncertain of their capabilities to participate, as it will require a reasonable computer and internet connection. There is no easy catch-all way to determine if your computer is up to speed, so we're using everyone's favourite system, the one of honour. A good comparison would be jumping into a Discord call with a friend and streaming your game/screen at 1080p/30fps while playing MTG Arena with no issue. If everything is nice and steady, you're good to go! If you cannot guarantee a steady broadcast we ask you to avoid registering for the event. If you would like to talk to us directly, please see below for contact information.
Please do your best to make sure you are sufficiently set up for broadcast, and if you have any questions or concerns please email gladiator@loadingreadyrun.com and we will do our best to help you out!
Registration & Checking In
Players will be required to complete registration and submit their decklist by Thursday, July 22nd, 11:59pm PST.
Players will also be required to check-in by using the Melee.GG player controller prior to the start of the event. Check-In will open at 8:00am PST, Saturday, July 24th. Any player that fails to check-in prior to the event will be dropped.
Pairings
Pairings will be announced through the Melee.GG player controller as well as the dedicated Discord server for The Great Big Gladiator Games. Please note, this Discord will be separate from the official Gladiator format server.
At the beginning of each round your "Current Pairing" will be updated through the Melee.GG player controller. Players will be required to check-in at the beginning of the round through their player controller. In order to check-in, all that is required is for players to click the green button for your current match.
Matches
After players have received their pairing for the round, they must send their opponent a Direct Challenge on MTG Arena. The MTG Arena username of each player will be shown on their individual Melee.GG profile, as well as under your current pairing.
Direct challenges must be formatted as such:
Limited Tournament Match
Traditional Limited Cards
Best of Three
Coin Flip
Timers On
Please ensure both you and your opponent are sending direct challenges with identical settings.
Each round will be 60 minutes total (30 minutes per player, using the in-game MTG Arena timer), with an additional 5 minute grace period of check-ins and creating challenges. If you have not checked in after 10 minutes and have not communicated with both your opponent and tournament staff, you will receive a loss for the current round and will be dropped from the event.
Match Reporting
At the conclusion of your match it is recommended to take a screen shot of your match result, to avoid reporting discrepancies. Please submit all match results through the Melee.GG player controller. Intentional draws are not allowed.
Eligibility
There are no geographic restrictions on participation. Players may be required to (confidentially) provide mailing information for physical prizes.
By entering, players consent that their decklists & arena/discord username (excluding additional #'s) may be used for broadcast purposes.
